A few weeks ago (gawd has it been that long?) I attended this awesome private social event at the rooftop of the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills with fellow beauty bloggers to hang out with Whitney Port. We talked about fashion, beauty, pasta (she hates it but have tried ravioli), reality TV, social media, Coachella (Tupac was suddenly running around on stage!), and everything else in between – including how awesomely bright her smile is.
Whitney Port for Crest 3D White
This was my second time meeting Whitney – the first time was a formal one-on-one interview (live on NadineJolie.com) – and this time was more of a casual gathering with a bunch of my fav LA bloggers and editors. After meeting her twice, I can honestly say this: Whitney is awesome. I’ve met one of her Hills costars before while working at Sephora and Whitney is just so much more personable than this unnamed costar. It’s easy to see why she got her own spin-off show, The City, and why she’s so successful after her show. She doesn’t let being a reality star define her – instead she utilizes her fame to launch her own clothing line and post-reality career. Plus she’s just sweet, down-to-earth, hardworking, and super smart.

Are you ready to find out what’s new with Whitney? To find out the latest scoop, keep on reading: On what’s new in her life?I just got back from London filming Britain’s Next Top Model. I was a full time judge and that will air over there in June. Obviously I’m continuing to work on my collection and gearing to go to Australia to launch my line there and be part of fashion week. I’m wearing one of my dresses right now (a cute floral print). We do a lot of custom prints – feminine and flirty. Everything can be accessorized for a night out and reflective of her style.
A quick one-on-one since I got there early!
On being a judge on Britain’s Next Top Model:
It’s been awesome! It was cool to live in a different environment for a month and be away from everything. It’s a different kind of show because I’ve done the reality thing but never a competion style show. It was just cool to work with Elle Macpherson, Julien MacDonald, and Tyson Beckford. (Her old mentor Kelly Cutrone) came on a guest judge spot with us when we were in Canada filming the finale. She gave really good pointers.
What sort of tips she gave models:
We had been trying to teach them how important it is finding the confidence and finding what empowers them. That always shows through in pictures. We (the judges) all came from different backgrounds – Elle and Tyson are supermodels and they really know the tricks of the trade. Julien and I have clothing lines and it’s all about having the girl that embodies our brand, who to represent us, and what attitude they have. It was more about giving constructive tips than bashing them becuase who wants to do that? Theyre putting themselves out there.
Who is the girl that embodies the Whitney Eve line?
Motivated – Someone not afraid to step out of the line a little bit. Unique Uses fashion to express her personality, as an artform to express herself. The line is very reflective of my style – nothing fancy. It’s girly, Los Angeles comfort. It’s sold on WhitneyEve.com and in boutiques country-wide. I do the designs and we manufacture overseas.
What were some new things or trends that you discovered in London?
Londoners love the Crest 3D White Professional Effects and Glamorous White Toothpaste
In London I emailed Crest asking for more Crest Whitestrips. Over there they’re harder to find. Everyone on set was asking me to hook them up – everyone wanted them out there! So obviously the new Crest 3D White Whitestrips Professional Effects is something I always have to have and carry with me. Also in London, it’s all about those Boots stores. It’s a cheaper beauty supply store – it’s soooo good!
On blogging and tweeting:
I do it with my sister. She helps me a lot because she’s a lot more versed in the whole social media world. We have whitneyport.com, which is run by celebuzz.com, and we update it 2-3 times a day on whatever is going on: my clothing line, events like this, beauty and fashion tips, music mondays. We try to update it as much as possible because we realize that’s where everyone is living. It’s so much fun!
On finding time to accomplish everything:
It’s really difficult. You fall behind on a lot of things. Right now I’m supposed to be working on my Spring 2013 collection. Since I’ve been gone, traveling, and doing other things, I’ve fallen behind. You somehow figure it out – it’s what it comes down to. Whether it’s sacrificing other things, you just got to do it. You only get so many opportunities and you want to take as much of it as possible. Yu may never get it again!
On favorite go-to beauty looks:
For the night out, I’m not very good at eye makeup. I’ll just go with a clean eye or use a CoverGirl brown chubby stick (SmokyShadowBlast) and brush that on. Right now I had my makeup done so I have on lashes. I don’t love strips because they irritate my eyes. I do individuals – the individuals you just gradually make them longer as you go out to shape your eyes.

I love cherry red lips. I got these really cool Tom Ford lipsticks- really dark, almost black! I think when you don’t have time or don’t know what you’re doing, red lips are just so easy.

On her favorite daily beauty looks:
If I’m just going to work, I feel like less is more. It’s still fun to play around (with makeup).
On her makeup artist:
My makeup artist is Phoebe Ogan – she’s so great. I’ve been able to try and work with a lot of people and she (Phoebe) just gets my face the most. It’s really about getting someone to understand what you like and what is your comfort zone.
On her favorite beauty products:
Illamasqua Cream Blush – Whitney suggests dabbing a little bit of it onto the apples of the cheek
I like this Illamasqua cream blush in an orange-y pink. I used to apply a powder than put the cream on top, but my cheeks were getting really muddy with layers showing. I learned to just put powder where it gets oily and add a little bit of color on the apples of the cheek. I love Tom Ford lipsticks. I also got some really good NARS stuff – a SPF 30 Tinted Moisturizer. I also like Cle de Peauproducts but it’s a bit pricey.

There’s also the Lucas Papaw Ointment. I’m going to stock up on that when I go to Australia. It’s only in Australia and it’s made from papaya. I put it religiously on my lips but you can use it as a Neosporin type of thing for any burns or cuts. I know there are some beauty supply stores in New York where you can get it.

On getting a radiant skin:
I mix different tinted moisturizers because it adds more depth and you get a closer shade to your skin.
And there you have it! I never understood why my former colleague Richard Yun had such a huge crush on Whitney, but now I kind of get it. She’s really an incredible girl with a bright smile – a perfect spokesperson for Crest!
Whitney Port with Jennifer Chan (The Fabulous File) and me
Thanks so much for Crest Whitestrips and Whitney Port for having me and for hosting this at my favorite rooftop pool in LA. I adore the rooftop pool at the Thompson Hotel in Beverly Hills. Would anyone be kind and throw me a bone in the form of an unlimited pass to the pool?
A view of Beverly Hills from the Thompson Hotel – AMAZING
